District 7 - Reaping for THE GIRL WHO WAS ON FIRE

Yes, I warned you guys that I might or might not but most definitely might be participating in something amazingly awesome for the release of the amazingly awesome essay anthology I'm a part of that analyses the amazingly awesome series, the Hunger Games, called . . . THE GIRL WHO WAS ON FIRE (echo echo echo).

Basically I get to be part of a contest, aka Reaping, where I get to give away to two people a copy each of the book!

Or as Smart Pop Books puts it:

"April 5 is the official release of The Girl Who Was on Fire, and we’re celebrating by holding our own version of the Hunger Games’ reaping—one with much less threat of death and way less perilous prizes.

For the 13 days (excluding weekends) leading up to the release, we’ve arranged to give away 2 copies of The Girl Who Was on Fire at 13 different “districts” around the web."

If you are curious what those other districts are and want to up your chances of winning, check out the contest page here.

(if you want to read an excerpt from my essay you can do so here)

So evidently I am representing District 7, which really, I feel is so totally perfect a district for a book giveaway contest considering it is the district responsible for lumber and PAPER products.

And it's all pretty simple. Leave a comment and contact email below and at the end of the day I'll be "reaping" two winners of the book! And just to make it a bit more fun, how about this, why don't you also share your favourite character from the series aside from the obvious trio: Katniss, Peeta and Gale.

I'll go first: my favourite would have to be . . . Cinna.

Your turn!

*UPDATE*

The contest is now closed :( . But do check out the linked page above to see where the next district is! Thank you all for entering, and I hope for those of you who don't win you'll still get yourself a copy of the book (I've been reading the essays myself, and they are so compelling, a must read for any HUNGER GAMES fan). All hail the HUNGER GAMES!

Ooh -- I've had my eye on this book for some time now! :)

My favourite... Can I say all of District 11? Their unflinching, subtle support of Katniss was amazing. That One Scene in book two made me bawl like a little kid.

If an entire district isn't allowed, I think I'll go for Foxface. She was smart and sneaky. I like that. :D

I would love to win this book!

My favorite character is Cinna because he is just so cool. He's just got the kind of personality that makes me like him....such as not caring what happens to him as long as he knows what he is doing is right.

My favorite would have to be Rue...you just have to pity her for her tender age in those horrible Games but admire her strength for all she did. Plus, it was Rue and Rue's death I think that really set Katniss on her path as the Mockingjay.

Cinna is a good one! I love him. He's sassy, smart, and a brilliant mind. But my favorite is Finnick. I really can't say why. I just adore him. He sounds super sexy and the way he loves Annie makes me so incredibly melty inside. I even tried to name my roommates dog Finnick but she wouldn't let it stick. Haha.

I'm so excited for this book!

My favorite character is Cinna too. While remaining completely fabulous, he was smart and brave. He didn't have to help Katniss as much as he did & it cost him his life. I was heartbroken when it happened.

I would love to win this book!

My favorite OTHER character is probably Finnick. Strong, stoic, lewd. My kind of guy! Plus, he's completely sweet and loving with Annie. Plus he got all those Capitol secrets. That's what I call a hero. :)

Sorry forgot the contact email: salvatoreboardinghouse @ gmail.com. Thanks!

Snow.

Just kidding.

I loved a lot of characters--Finnick, Cinna, even Haymitch (sometimes)--but my heart went out to poor Rue.

I would have to say that I am a big supporter of Prim. She grows up so much by the end of the series. She inspires Katniss to take on her responsibility as a leader and then is willing to die to help others. She is truly inspiring and I have never cried so hard since Dumbledore died in Harry Potter.

Yes, I know that my nerd is showing :)

What a fun contest!

My favorite character is by far Rue. I love that such an unassuming girl was able to outlast so many of the other contenders.

I want this book!!!

I think my favorite character is Madge. She always happened to be there for Katniss during the hardest times, like when Katniss was headed for the Games and when Gale nearly died.

My favorite character other than the obvious trio would be either Finnick or Haymitch. I thought Finnick was great because he seemed so shallow at first, and as the books went on we were treated to more of what he was really like. And I love Hatmitch because no matter how drunk he was, or manipulative, or how pissed off at Katniss & Peeta he was, he always did what he had to to help them win and in the end he always had his heart in the right place.

Hmmm, since I don't want to pick just one, I'm gonna pick one from each of the books. ;) From Hunger Games, I think my favourite other character was Thresh, I just thought he was awesome. He also kind of reminded me of Derek from the Darkest Powers. From Catching Fire, Finnick was my favourite! I'm not sure if I even have to explain Finnick's awesomeness though, I think people get it. haha And from Mockingjay, Boggs. He was one of those characters that totally shocked me and went from being kind of invisible to being awesome. :) ...And if I had to just pick one I'd pick Finnick. :)

Thanks for the chance to win a copy of The Girl Who Was on Fire! :)

My favorite character is definitely Haymitch. He may have been an alcoholic but he could have easily become a bad mentor too and Katniss and Peeta could always count on him.

I'll avoid the obvious supporting characters, and go with the Avoxes, the Avox Girl, to be specific. Before the third book came out, I had a theory about the Avox Girl perhaps playing a large part in the rebellion. You can read about it here: http://www.myhungergames.com/avox-girl-and-mockingjay So, I would love to share this book with my students and thank you for the opportunity. I would love to win this book!

My favorite characters (aside from the trio) are Finnick and Cinna

*SPOILER*
I think couldn't believe it more when Cinna and Finnick died (rather than Rue, but still, quite emotional)! Both characters though took time for me to grow to really like. AT first I thought Cinna was crazy, but by the middle of the Hunger Games and well into Catching Fire, I loved him! Same with Finnick...ugh, I still can't believe he died!!!...I'm just glad Annie had his child :)

Hmmm, I'd have to say that my favourite characters outside of Peeta and Katniss are Finnick and Rue ~ thinking about them both is making my eyes water as both of them have such admirable traits and really helped out Katniss on her road to becoming who she is!

I'm definitely a Haymitch fan. Beneath all that drunkenness and biting sarcasm there's a person who's lost a lot. And who cares for Katniss and Peeta. His sarcasm definitely makes me grin every time I read the books:)

Um My favorite district is 4 because of course Finnick is from their,, and so is fish :)

Cinna is most definitely one of the best characters in The Hunger Games trilogy. I love his loyalty and his ability to create the most amazing fashion statements. However, if I had to choose a face other than the main three characters, it wouldn't be him. It would be Finnick - there is just something about his tragic relationship with Annie that really got to me.

I can't wait to read this book!! Winning it though would make it a whole lot better!! ;)

My favourite character in the book has to be Rue or Prim because they're both so innocent and strong at the same time!! It's what makes them almost impossible to not fall in love with!! I cried sooo hard when Rue died so i guess that means I like her more then Prim?? It doesn't matter her death really changed Katniss!!

My favorite character? That's a difficult question! Okay... I'm going to say more than one, cool?
1)Annie. Despite losing Finnick and having a fragile mind, she was strong no matter what!
2)Finnick! What can I say? Hot AND funny? That's my kind of guy!
3) Beetee...The guy is a FRICKIN' genius!
4)Wiress... Such a sweet, crazy person. And the fact, that without Beetee she wouldn't be complete! (Or at least her sentences wouldn't...)
5)Cinna because he's just plain awesome! Also Cinna-mon... Yum!

ohhh, thats a unfair question! Ok, my favourite character would have to be... Cinna too! He is just so awesome and so nice to Katniss! And I like how he helped Katniss with the mockingjay custom even though he knew it would risk he's life :)

The Hunger Games might just be the only book which all characters I loved so much (of course, I hated Snow and Coin). But apart from the three, my favorite is Finnick. I kind of actually doubted him on the first part of Catching Fire but his willingness to die for Peeta and Katniss so they could be freed of The Hunger Games is very expansive that I can't even believe he needed to die in Mockingjay huhu.

Needless to say I want the book because I'm a Hunger Games addict.

Thank you all so much for entering the contest and for your fab answers. Every time someone mentioned someone new I was all, "Oooh! I like that person too!" Clearly Collins created a world populated by fabulous characters.

I'm going to officially close this contest now, and I'll be choosing the winners sometime today, and will let you know here when the winners have been picked so that you won't be waiting forever. Those who win will get a personal email.

Thanks again for entering, and I do hope those of you that don't win :( still decide to purchase the book. I've read many of the essays already and they are very compelling and so interesting - especially if you love this series as we all do.

Yay HUNGER GAMES!
